I am Julien Nachef, first year student at Arts et Métiers ParisTech, and I plan to apply for a Master of Science in Civil Engineering at UC Berkeley.

Nowadays, UC Berkeley is recognized internationally among top ranking institutions, and its training is valued world-wide. As well, it has many well ranked graduate programs, renowned for their research and teaching.

After their studies, UC Berkeley alumni hold excellent position in education, research, or industry. A Master of Science from UC Berkeley is therefore a valuable asset for your career.

I have decided to do an internship at UC Berkeley during the summer to discover the campus, to meet Arts et Métiers ParisTech students in the U.S., and to better understand how laboratories and departments work.

I have got this internship thanks to Xavier Wartelle (Arts et Métiers ParisTech alumni and current PRIME General Manager and CEO of Hubtech21), and Rizlene Bouchemoua (Arts et Métiers ParisTech alumni and Arts et Métiers ParisTech U.S. Representative). They put me in touch with Alexandre Bayen, Professor in Systems Engineering who asked me to work as an IT programmer for two months. My missions were to update and rebuild websites made under Drupal, a useful language if you stay in the Silicon Valley, and to run different servers hosting these websites.

An internship at UC Berkeley is a good opportunity to have a first contact with renowned professors, who work on interesting research areas. This is also an excellent way to show your motivation and your worth to UC Berkeley Professors, who may provide you reference letters for your upcoming application.

Berkeley is more than just a great place to study; it’s also a wonderful place to live. You have unlimited options: museums, opera, bars in San Francisco, and National Parks in California.

A U.S. internship will be an opportunity for you to broaden your vision of the world, discover a new culture and a new country. After your stay, you will know more about the United States, Americans, and the life over here.
